Halo Combat Evolved Multiplayer Guide
Halo Combat Evolved is a popular video game and one of the game where I am really good and as this screenshot prove if I play seriously I can be “good”

So why not explain how to become as good as me and even better?
The first thing you need to understand when playing Halo PC (including Halo CE) is the lag system. Since the server is authoritative. He is the only one that knows the real location of the player.
What you see on your screen isn’t the true position of your enemies. Most player hate that principle, but once you understand it this make the game far more interesting then a game where your computer tell the server if you hit or not.
This lag system forces you to guess the real position of the enemy player and that’s what people hate, but I love it. To find out the position you need to make very quick trigonometry in your head. The factors you need to consider are the enemy heading, the speed, and the ping.
With a ping under 60, you won’t have to prefire too much in front of your enemy. But I’m mostly use to a ping of 100 to 150 where you basically aim at one meter in front of you enemy. Each time you will hear a “bip” in the game, it will mean you hit. So when you aim you need to choose the target that has the best moving regularity, this way you are sure to be able to kill it fast.
Aiming is only half of how to become good at that game. The movement is even more important. A good player could survive to a game without shooting. By the way he move he should be able to evade most bullet. The way you move should be very diversify.
What kind of moving pattern should you use?
Well there are many ways to move but a line forward “I” isn’t one of them. Unless you know there isn’t enemies around. But when under fire switch to a “L” kind of movement, once you find enemies. But the “–>” movement won’t make you survive long. That’s when you should think about moving back “<--". The movement "->–<-" is the most used. But it's ratter simple to shoot at. It can be simple and effective at first. The main idea of moving like that is that the people in front of you will follow you movement in both extremity and will find it hard to follow. It's also effective in most games. But that won't really impress a good player of Halo PC.
Some better player use a moving pattern of very close and small move like that "-><-". The idea in that movement small and fast movement is that the lag will exaggerate the movement you actually do. It's a smart and effective move, but can be counter easier then you would expect simple fire in the middle of the moving pattern and you will hit.
Linear movement isn't the best way to move. "Z" movement is already a better way to move but still it but like the earlier movement pattern, the main weakness is that on the flank you are very expose, so if you are flanked it's most likely you will be an easy prey. What I recommend is the "S" and "O" moving pattern. Those patterns make you hard to hit from all direction. That mean you can evade the enemy fire from all direction instead of limiting yourself to evade the enemy in front of you. But be warn, it's important to actually diversify your movement pattern.
That's where most players fail. Many of the "good" player have moving pattern deep printed in the way they play, basically they always move the same way. All you got to do his learn the moving pattern, and they won't last long because every single bullet you will shoot will hit the target since you can easily anticipate the way they will try to evade your fire.
The really best player move randomly, using different moving pattern in the right context in a random way so that you can't learn how they move, but that kind of player is rare. I think I only saw two players that good.
But how can you fight the perfect moving player?
Well the best player also have good reflex. Use those player reflexes to orient them. You can do that by a good use of grenade. The human fragmentation grenades are your best ally. If you throw a grenade on the foot of your enemy, you force him to evade it. By evading the grenade, you force him to move in the direction you want him to go. This is your opportunity to fire when he is actually forced to move in a regular, linear way, then your triangulations aiming can be easily figure out.
To illustrate those principle now take a careful look at those video I recorded and watch carefully the way I aim and the way I move.
Here you can see how Halo look with the host advantage, as you can see you can aim right on the target instead of leading your target. So it’s really easier. Basically if you were playing on Xbox it would be easier then that since the xbox has auto aim that does the job for you.

Ok, first of all, get a life. You aren’t the best at every game you play. “Watch and you’ll be as good as me.” You suck at Halo from what I can tell. Also, stop playing video games and go learn english, you sound like a caveman.
Let me just point out that lag is a bad thing. You shouldn’t “love” lag, like you do. Trigonometry also has nothing to do with lag. You can’t calculate lag time, it’s in the server and happens at irregular intervals. God damn, get a fucking clue about everything.
Hah, you said “simple and effective at fist.”
Oh my god…dummy.

Hmmm, it seems your comment was auto intercepted because of the words “suck” and “fucking” . Sorry about that but they are on a moderation list.
So thanks for you comment and concern for my life it’s really kind of you. My doctor thinks the same.
I agree with you that I’m not the best and never said so anywhere. As for Halo I’m clearly not the best since I play one time per month or less. There are some players that are far better. Also, they usually don’t play as many games as I do and can become the best at the game they play. I don’t have that kind of interest or ambition as being the best at any of the game I play. I’m interested by playing a large diversity of game.
Concerning my English you are right… I still have a long way to learn, since it is not my mother language, as you might have figured out by yourself. One of this blog goal is to help me get ride of my “caveman” English.
I think it’s better and funnier to learn a language while exchanging with real people and video games are the perfect universal common ground for that.
So, if you have suggestion for improvements you are welcome to let me know.
As for the lag, well it’s like a random rule that make the game interesting in a way, feel free to disagree with me. In fact it would be great if you were writing an article on your point of view on the matter. It sure would be great to read it.
My goal is to share my knowledge and help other become better and many seem to appreciate.

oh I forgot to ask, does the lag thing also apply to campaign?? lets say theres alot of aliens and theres alot of my men shooting and theres a huge amount of lag, does that mean the aliens aren’t really at their spot?
September 2nd, 2007 at 12:03 am
na it’s not the same kind of lag
this guide only apply to internet lag, the game itself lag only slow down the game.
September 13th, 2007 at 3:44 am
First of all Attila alot of your kills are just Spray and pray Not once have I seen you aim. Oh yea and the so called “Lag” Your talking about doesnt help At all. But yea atleast you tried =]
September 13th, 2007 at 8:30 am
The weird thing is that if as you say I never aim, why do I alway hit 5 bullet on 6 does the beep of a hit, could define what is a good aim and a video exemple of a multiplayer game on halo pc where the player has a perfect aiming without being the host. I will be please to include it in the guide. Thanks in advance.

October 13th, 2007 at 5:23 pm
kool vid u r way better than me
October 14th, 2007 at 9:39 am
Well keep playing and you will get better then me
October 17th, 2007 at 11:23 pm
should u kill ppl in ctf? if u do, then the dead ones will spawn at there base and make it harder to take the flag.
October 17th, 2007 at 11:35 pm
that’s one smart question there vomitme. Well it very much depend your team… If you have reliable players on the defense tell them to just slow the enemies down so that the enemies don’t respawn at their base. As soon as you have the flag and escape, this is when your team should kill them and rush to cover you in the center of the map so that you can be safe at least half way.
But since halo player are not alway well coordinated such strategy can only be achieve if you know people you play with…
I think the best setup is probably like soccer (football in Europe). 3 offensive player, 4 player to hold the center of the map, and 3 defensive player. (the defensive players should sometime switch with the center players to get better weapons.)

October 25th, 2007 at 3:37 am
I’ve been playing halo for about a month now, and my skills arent improving. Ive tried evrything, but nothing seems to stick. I tried the movements in the post but it works only sometimes (almost never when i get shot by rockets). Its really frustrating to get kill as soon as i start shooting at somebody. And aslo when is it a good time to use the zoom on the pistol? there are some players who can just kill me with a few shots from a pistol(short to medium range) how do they have such good aim?
And also, the melee attack, i cant seem to use it effectiviely…..every time i use a meele, the other player always evades it. should i aim for his head or his body?
Please i need help, Attila.
P.s Thats one unbelievable perfect score. 25 kills and no death
October 25th, 2007 at 9:20 am
well the zoom should be use mostly on long range, and those player that kill you in a few shot it’s because they aim for the head. It you hit the head it does more damage.
As for melee attack, on halo pc it is indeed really hard to do. You should know that the melee attack have the same lag aspect of the normal weapons. That mean that if you see an enemy in the front and he go pass you. You should make a melee attack on “back” in the wind to hit him. Because remember, he isn’t where you see him. If you see him in the front, going pass you, that me in reality he is already behind you.
As for rocket. Well not much you can do except… when you see a rocket launcher arround, pull back and start jumping. By being in the air, sometime it can make you survive the blast.
October 30th, 2007 at 2:45 pm

great job man! “A Friend” is the one who needs to get a life if the best thing he can do is rip on someones game guide. I like how you responded to his comment, any idiot could have just balled posted an angry reply but obviously you made a nice calm one. “caveman english” hahaha! January 26th, 2008 at 12:15 am
You keep saying about auto aim for Consoles, that’s not true. There is a “Sticky Aimer” that helps to keep the aimer on the target unless forced to be taken off. Auto Aim is like pressing a button and it automaticly going to a target even if it’s behind a wall. Console aimers don’t do that.
January 26th, 2008 at 9:52 am
Your clarification does make sense. I used the term auto aim base on my terminologies from Rainbow Six 1 where the crosshair could aim the head of your enemies without the player doing anything other then aiming near the body of the enemies. I agree with you “Sticky Aimer” may be more appropriate to more modern terminologies.
Globally my main concern as a pc gamers is that many people compare human aim (on pc with a mouse and in some console games with a controller) with human assisted by “computer” aim (on console mostly) and then trash about the fact that (pc) you missed the enemies head by 1 pixel where on the same game on consoles that same shot would have hit the enemy because of the Sticky Aimer.
June 23rd, 2008 at 3:46 am
hey idk if u know or not, but on Halo 1 on the computer, some ppl have “too-good-to-be-true” aim… and i thought it was jst aimbotting… but nobody seems to know how to do it??? Do u know how to get aimbot on Halo1 for PC?
June 23rd, 2008 at 8:19 am
na and i don’t want to know. Cheating ruin the good player experience because when your good you get call cheater and by experience a good player can beat a cheater.
August 30th, 2008 at 2:33 am
great comment Attila u r really a calm person keep it up and can u give some tips on Counter Strike and team fortress 2 that would be a gr8 help. my id is mseth19@hotmail.com

November 23rd, 2008 at 3:56 pm
hey attila do u know how to stop lag if ur the host
November 24th, 2008 at 3:20 pm
