Dateyourgame Guides lines, Principles, FAQ (For Suscriber and Commenter)
The goal of the page is to clarify how dateyourgame.com work and what is accepted and rejected on it.
As new subscribers you receive the permission of “contributor”. What this mean is that you are able to write post and save them.
Once it is done, you leave it there and one of the Editor or Administrator will take a look check if every thing is fine with what was wrote and will publish it. That can take minute or that can take days. So stay calms, no panic…
When your post will be publishing you will get a notification every time you get a comment.
Now there are a few vague rules about what the post should contain. The first thing is that it must have text in it. If it doesn’t have any text in it, they will be deleted after some hours or days. Ultimately you can write an article of pure text, without any images, videos, etc.
We are also not interested to see lonely videos, image, etc.
It defeat the idea of this blog, meaning giving more explanation and sharing the knowledge that people will actually read.
If you embed a video or images, it is now imperative that you explain:
What kind of videos we want to see
By self created content we mean videos that you recorded yourself, edited yourself, published yourself wrote about yourself. Such Video can easily be achieved with the “How to Record Gameplay” guide on dateyourgame that is base on Attila’s experience.
Basic Rule for the videos to be accepted.
The goal of Dateyourgame isn’t to play the marketing game of companies, it is to share the experience of gaming.
What we don’t want to See in a post
Now depending your post and the quality of them you might become an “author” that will allow you to publish by yourself. But you must prove yourself first and contribute regularly with really good quality content.
Now how can you embed videos by yourself?
Well to do so I HIGHLY recommend you use Firefox
Then you must copy the embedding code from youtube, google video, dailymotion, etc.
On youtube you can find it on the video description or in the edit video info, down the page there is a code under “Embed HTML: Put this video on your Web site! Copy and paste the code below to embed the video.”
How to Fix Wordpress embeding bug:
Now for some people the code might bug once they save the post.
In Site Admin go to Users and turn off “Use the visual rich editor when writing” then go back to your post and past the Embed code provided by YouTube. It should do the trick.
If you have any question ask here and we will improve this page to the question we get.

So can i post my Scottish Chronicles then in another post write up a strategy guide pretty much explaining the way to go about playing as Scotland?
April 11th, 2007 at 11:31 am
you post your video and put any contend you think might help people understand why you did what you did, give contextual information that you think people would like to know. I know people enjoy numbers, like starting troops and how many dead, also the turn where your at, the global situation, stuff like that

Do as you see fit
April 11th, 2007 at 2:38 pm
Well i forgot to write all that down but ill post the chronicles and post a guide on how you can do it that way and different ways
April 11th, 2007 at 3:36 pm
check this page, http://total-war-campaign-chronicles.blogspot.com/search/label/Polish%20Chronicles
this will show you what i mean… I won’t publish 14 movie in one post, without any contextual text to explain individual videos.
Nobody would watch soo many video in a row, also consider that the post will disappear after sometime, so you better post 1 or 2 video per days with well written contextual information.
April 11th, 2007 at 11:15 pm
Attila, I have a question… I can’t actually record gameplay, but can I do posts of screenshots from games and then write about what was going on and post? if not then, I can’t really “contribute” to the blog, I sure hope I can, but that wasn’t very clearly covered in those guidlines
April 12th, 2007 at 7:32 am
Good point firemason2000, well I think images are like movie, so I would accept it.
The challenge is to describe well that action between them and find the right balance between text and images to help people create a good mental vision of the action.
So give it a try
April 12th, 2007 at 7:22 pm
Alrighty, I always liked some guidelines to go by ^_^ thanks Attila for laying this out ^_^
April 12th, 2007 at 7:32 pm
no problem, if you have any idea tell me
April 13th, 2007 at 7:52 pm
Guideline description is good. It says what is required, what we want and what we don’t want. Only submitt quality videos.
I still can’t embed videos though. Maybes it is to do with using windows and not firefox. I embed tons of videos elsewhere I just have problems here. It’s strange. I’m obviously doing something wrong.
Maybes some more info on troubleshooting would be good.
April 14th, 2007 at 8:37 am
yeah it’s a known problem with wordpress… I will check if there is a clear and simple way to fix it.
April 14th, 2007 at 8:44 am
here I added the solution.
April 23rd, 2007 at 2:30 pm

August 22nd, 2007 at 1:48 pm
Yes, I do use firefox, I’ll try to delete cookies, if I can find the button.
August 22nd, 2007 at 1:53 pm
Well… would you look at that, I think i’m just an idiot… it turns out my entire problem was, it registered me with a lower-case t instead of a capital T, so… heh heh heh, problem solved.
August 22nd, 2007 at 3:13 pm
Um… how do I make a new category when posting something?
August 22nd, 2007 at 4:03 pm
hehe, well kinda a annoying detail if you ask me
August 22nd, 2007 at 4:16 pm
what editor do you use?
August 22nd, 2007 at 4:25 pm
How is that?
August 22nd, 2007 at 4:53 pm
tw
if you refer to video editor, check the guide…
tokokono
you just type the category in the category thing, (click on the + if you don’t see it), click add, and that’s all
August 22nd, 2007 at 5:15 pm
but all it shows me is list of categories that already exist, and I see no way to type a new one or add another? And also, when I tried saved a draft, the video coding was removed and the preview didn’t show the video? I tried the bug fix thing and it didn’t work.
August 22nd, 2007 at 5:17 pm
well just ell me the category you would like to create and i will add it then.

August 22nd, 2007 at 9:41 pm

I just have a question…don’t most games contain violence? I’m not really sure by what you mean by “no violence”…we’re all not playing Bejeweled here, am I correct?
September 10th, 2007 at 4:38 pm
we mean violence that is beyond the acceptable level for our administrator
October 7th, 2007 at 4:50 am
i think i could post some of my tactics of battle of american conquest liek explaning that attacking from the flank or rear is better or explaning how i keep my morale so high in battles so my gunners of pikeman dnt run away and how to regroup after a defeat
October 12th, 2007 at 12:55 pm
would be interesting
October 16th, 2007 at 9:50 pm
So… if we make music videos, as long as there game related, could we post them here? ‘Cause I’d like to post some of my Medieval II music vids.
October 16th, 2007 at 9:55 pm
well you can embed a video, but it’s alway better if the video respect copyright.
October 16th, 2007 at 10:24 pm
So… if my video contains clip from vids created by Creative Assembly, I can’t? Or do you mean something else by copyright?
October 17th, 2007 at 12:04 am
Well, i think creative assembly are aware of that kind of use of their material, but personally I’m not a huge fan of media recycling. Alway annoy me to see a scene i saw many time before.
But in general by Copyright i mostly refer to music (since most “video content”, from video games are “public domain”). But I guess that since dateyourgame doesn’t distribute the video itself, it’s the responsibility of the video creator, and of youtube to respect the copyright.
Dateyourgame consider that if that video is on youtube it should mean that it respect copyright and it is the responsibility of the user and owner of youtube to insure the respect of those copyright. That respect of copyright is in the agrement you agree to on youtube when you create an account.
If you violate copyright on youtube your account can be deleted and that mean all your work will disappear.
If you check all of my videos, they all respect copyright, there isn’t any music used against the creator will, thanks to the audio swap of youtube. Or i exclusively use music from the game itself. By doing so I “respect” copyrights.
October 17th, 2007 at 8:58 am
Wow… er… I think I’m ok then… youtube has never had a problem with my videos, and some of them have been up for almost a year now. I give credit to all artists either in the video itself or in the comments, so is that good?
October 17th, 2007 at 10:51 am
Well if youtube consider your videos as respecting copyright i guess it is.
October 17th, 2007 at 11:03 am
Yay!
October 17th, 2007 at 11:38 am
well i took a look at the video, well it as ign watermark on it (can’t use that) and doesn’t contain a single “self created” scene. I won’t publish it. Show us something new that you recorded yourself. We saw those scene everywhere on the net… Create new content!
November 30th, 2007 at 4:55 am
This is my latest movie using the cinimatic editor for medieval total war 2 kingdoms. Its called The Burning Baltics: The Beginning. With my videos I like them to have a story instead of just a plan battle video. The story is something I made up and has nothing to do with historic events, its just to set the mood if you will. In regards to the story this is the first violent incounter between Pagan Lithuania and The Teutonic Order. Its set south of the Teutonic city of Riga and The TO is defending a direct rout to the city. I hope you all with enjoy….
December 1st, 2007 at 10:18 pm
Hey, im having that problem again, with the password being wrong? I made sure I used a capitol T instead of lower case this time.
And, once again, I tried using the password recovery system thingy, and it didn’t work again, so im in a bit of a bind here. I’m gonna try and delete my cookies and see if that works. But no guarantees.
December 1st, 2007 at 10:24 pm
You know what, scratch that, I got it working, and I have a new post ready for ya.
December 2nd, 2007 at 10:38 am
