Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 Hardline perk Review (Podcast)

Posted by Attila On February - 26 - 2010

The hardline perk is a perk that reduce by 1 kill the number of kill necessary to reach a killstreak reward in CoD MW2. This perk is mostly usefull in hardcore. In normal mode it prevent you from using the stopping power perk. To compensate this effect you may want to use the scavenger or one man army perk with it. While the can be usefull to call an air strike I don’t believe you need this perk as you become good at the game. It may be usefull to those who want to call nukes.

Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 Lightweight Review (Podcast). This perk is fairly simple, it speed you up by 7% and in the pro version allow you to raise your gun faster when stopping your run. This feature make it interesting for player that run a lot and can give the edge in a face to face. Lightweight perk is good when combine with Marathon since together they make the player very mobile. You can also use it with ninja perk to make your running arround silenced. Or you may want to use commando to knife people around like a zerg.

Nexus the Jupiter Incident Star trek-Universe at war

With the release of a few games base of sci-fi series like Star Trek Online and Stargate Resistance. I remembered Nexus the Jupiter Incident, a game very few people seem to knows unlike Homeworld series or Sins of a Solar Empire. Nexus the Jupiter Incident never reached it’s full potential as it was suppose to when named Imperium Galactica III. But still have some really impressive capacities and a few mod maker took advantage of this by making amazingly good looking mods. Star trek Universe at war mod is probably one of them.

This video feature a mission I created myself in less then 10 min, thanks to the Skirmisher mod and the very easy mission editor that the game provide. I put the game in cinematic mod so the AI controls the ship and camera with a good looking result. I hope you will enjoy even is space games don’t attract as many people as other type of games…

Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 One Man Army Perk Review (Podcast)

Posted by Attila On February - 13 - 2010

The Perk Marathon allows to run none stop for a longer distance. This perk allows to move arround faster in the environnements and take advantage on the enemy by flanking him. In the context where you need to pull back for tactical reason, this perk can make the difference between life and death.
This perk is easly addaptable to all difficulty level. It is espetially usefull when the player adopt an offensive strategy and want to engage the enemies faster. The pro version of this perk allow to climb ladders and cover faster. This speed reduce the time you are expose without your gun while climbing.
It also combine very well with the ninja perk. Since running make a lot of noise, the ninja perk make it silent. You can also use the lightweight to increase your running speed and to be able to raise your gun much faster when you stop running helping to be ready in a face to face. If you like to run around, you may also like to jump around, so you can complete the set with commando perk that allows you to fall without damage. And since running make you get close to your enemies faster, the commando perk may help you kill the enemies faster with the knife. While marathon perk is mostly a moving perk, it may also be usefull for player that enjoy camping since it allows to redeploy to a better spot faster or allows to flee from your enemies to a better and safer spot.

Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 Scavenger Review (Podcast)

Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 Bling Perk strategy Review is more a podcast then an animated video. Since I like to share my strategies and my subscriber like some visual stimulation, I figured I might as well upload that as a podcast so that the maximum people can take advantage of what i may say about it. I hope this will help player that may not have understand the potential of the perks I’m talking about. As for experienced player this may confirm what you know and I highly encourage you to comment to complete the information I say.

Many people appear to have terrible performence in the beta version of Battlefield Bad Company 2. The first reflex for most people is to actually think their computer is bad. Well the good news is that it’s likely not the case. This guide will explain you how to turn a very laggy experience into a good experience smooth gameplay.

if you actually have the requirement for the game
OS: Windows XP, Vista or Windows 7
Processor: Intel Core 2 Quad or higher
Memory: 2GB
Graphics: 256 MB Video Card (GeForce 7800 GT / ATI X1900) (or better)

The game support Directx 9 10 and 11 and is configured to choose the highest directx your GPU can use.

While that choice allow you to get the best visual quality it may tax your system way to much, in my case for exemple I ended up having arround 24 fps meaning nearly unplayable because my GPU support directx 10.1. But while it support it, my ATI 3870 doesn’t seem to be able to answer the higher demand of that directx and this is the case for many people. The solution is fairly simple.

You go in “My Documents” folder then “BFBC2Beta”. Open the file “settings.ini” with the notepad.

Go to the like DxVersion=auto and change it to DxVersion=9. Save the file and launch the game.
This should allow you to play in the less demanding directx the game support and increase significally you fps. In my case it went from 24 to 49 or more.

Also you may want to disable Bloom by changing Bloom=true to Bloom=false. The bloom in the game appear to be too intense for the eyes of many people. it can be blinding… So having bloom disable may increase performence and make it easier for you to spot people.

By default HSAO is set to false, but if it is set to true you may want to put it on false to increase performence.

Finally if your still lagging after all that, you may want to try to turn everything that is on High or Medium to low.

If you still lagging after all that… well you may need to buy a new GPU after all or new computer and I recommend you to check out my Hardware Guide.

Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 Bling Perk Review

Posted by Attila On January - 30 - 2010

Bling is a perk that allows you to use two attachment to your weapons. While there are many potential attachment mix. I found Bling mostly useful when it came to kill enemies with FMJ rounds to unlock larger clip. But here are some combination I find useful. For the assault rifle at normal, using a silencer and an aiming device allows you to remain stealthy on the radar without being force to use the iron sight. While at hardcore using an aiming device and FMJ can allow you to kill your enemies easier even as they hide behind cover. You may also find practical on both mode to use the heartbeat sensor combine with an aiming device to have an edge on the enemies. With sub machine gun you may want to combine rapid fire or silencer and akimbo. Like for assault rifle you may want to use a silencer and the aiming devise of your choice. You could also gain from using extended mag with an other attachment. With light machine gun, the grip allows you to increase you accuracy, using bling you can also use an aiming device to aim making it easier to kill your enemies. With sniper rifle you may find very useful to use the silencer and thermal scope. The silencer keep you off the radar and reduce the flash of your gun, while the thermal score may help you spot your enemies. Bling is a very useful perk that allows you to customize your weapon into something your are comfortable with, without the sacrifice of one weapon attachment instead of the other.

Men of War Exclusive Coop Gameplay

Posted by Attila On February - 20 - 2009

This is a video of Men of War in coop that I had the opportunity to try in exclusivity. This is base on the Beta so you may notice a few visual difference with final version of the game. This mission is the first German campaign mission with the massive invasion on Crete. The attack was the first step to the North African campaign that was shortly following afterwards and dominates the rest of the campaign.

Some of the nice feature you can see in this video is that in coop you can revive your fallen allies with a limited number of morphine that your main soldiers have with them. That limited number of “revive” force you to remain vigilante with your forces, without being frustrated at losing all your soldiers one after the other until defeat occure.

Coop also split the available troops between up to 4 players, in doing so the coop make it easier for players to use the direct control, without being overwhelmed by the management of a large forces where the fight can be heated and confuse like any real war.

This attention to a smaller group of soldiers also mean that you can use them more effectively. For exemple in Men of War coop, the inventory management is much more important and useful. You have more time to get ammo to your troops. You also have time to gain from using the guns of your enemies instead of simply ignoring them like most players would do in multiplayer.

The coop also allow you to specialize your role in the team. for example, some player can focus themselves on infantry tactic, while others can provide sniper support and use the enemies guns left behind, in order to support your advance.

Since each soldiers become more effective thanks to a closer control of humans, you can also advance on a wider front leading to a better positioning of your forces. This better positioning give you new angles of fire on enemies positions and protect your flanks.

The cooperation can also go beyond simply dividing forces but can also include spotting dangerous enemies like we did in this video. While one player is busy aiming at the enemies the other player scan the horizon and report the position of the next dangerous target using the “N” button. This is also true in multiplayer games.

This video also contain many useful tricks about how to finish the the mission on hard and one of the many ways to do it. This video doesn’t contain the last part of the mission, because we ran out of disk space, and that should allow you to spice things up when your the one playing. =)

Men of War

Posted by Attila On February - 20 - 2009

This is a battle of Men of War multiplayer beta. In this video I’m in charge of the left flank and I must hold the flank.

What is important to note in this video, is how I deploy my infantry around to scout the enemies movement. It’s important to find the right positions where they can hide and at the same time keeping them in a position of mutual support in case enemies infantry find them.

In this battle, my side successfully pushed the enemies out of the center of the the map and we didn’t advanced further for the following reasons. The enemies spawn nearby in a line, so they could have fired at the weak sides of our tanks. The flank being weak combine with the close range would also have made their armor piercing round stronger, exposing our forces to a certain death. Spawn camping your enemies isn’t very fun for them and for yourself so it was better holding the center.

For the most part, I was able to hold the line with a Sherman M4A2 against Panzer IV. The M4A2 has the advantage of having an heavier body armors then the M4A1. This mean that the your M4A2 can take much more punishment then the M4A1. You can get at closer range to the enemies and survive while shooting them back with stronger Amour Piercing power.

Of course the M4A2 while better then the M4A1, it didn’t resisted the powerful Nashorn anti tank gun and was destroyed later on. I avenged it by sneaking a crew member behind enemies line and trow dynamite that blew up the Nashorn. One thing you should notice is the limited view the enemies tanks have and that are represented by the red line with you click on the units. Also your prone infantry are harder to see for them. So if you use your infantry smartly you can easily destroy very important enemies vehicle with a low cost.

When I spawned a Pershing the fate of the enemies was seal considering the Pershing have a very heavy armor and a powerful cannon. The enemies medium tank were then destroy from a far without much chance to inflict any damage. So this was a clear victory.

***NOTE: The sound isn’t the best ever because windows changed an option without asking me, preventing me from having a “good quality” sound while recording. I tryed to reduce the inconvenient as much as possible and if it doesn’t do the job, i recommend cutting the sound to half. The game sound is much better then what you will hear in this video.

Strategy Review of the Crusades and Jihad in Medieval II Total War

Posted by Attila On September - 11 - 2008

To start a Crusade you will need the right diplomatic context, because you have to get the blessing of the Pope. So maintaining good relation with him in the previous turns is crutial. One advantage of starting a Crusade or Jihad, over participating in one, is the ability to choose the targeted city.
The Jihad works similarly, but in the case of Muslim, it must be started by an imam following the loss of Muslim territories. Since Imam are under your command, it quite easy to start one compared to the
Christian factions and the diplomatic requirement they face. It’s important to note that to join a Crusade or a Jihad, you will need a general with an army of 8 units.

Crusades and Jihads have few advantages.
The armies participating move twice as fast then normally.
The units participating cost nothing to maintain and many units are only available as mercenaries in the crusade and jihad.
When a crusade or jihad achieves its objective, the generals participating will win a lot of traits and gain commanding experience.
For a Christian faction, the relations with the Pope will improve in the case of a victory.
The fact that your army moves around fast may allow you to loot many cities on the way making your empire richer.

While the crusades and jihad can look attractive, using them at the right moment is very important. You need to know how to gain from them, since they offer interesting opportunities.

Before joining a crusade or jihad, you need to consider the following aspects:

Make sure that the objective isn’t too far from the territories of your faction.
Conquering a city far away brings with it many problems.

A newly conquered city in the middle of hostile territory increases your military cost and divides your forces.

If your crusade doesn’t advance fast enough the desertion rate will increase and weaken your crusading army. If many factions are participating to the conquest of the objective, you need to remember that only one faction will control the city by the end of the crusade.

This means that at some point you can have a general and his army in the middle of an hostile territory without any place to retreat. The process of bringing him back can be dangerous making his army ineffective and costly. It can then be considered a waste of resources.

Call of Duty 4 Modern Warfare Red Dot Sight Review

Posted by Attila On July - 22 - 2008

Red Dot Sight

The Red Dot Sight is an add on that doesn’t have a long range zoom.

It’s main feature is it’s special reticule form by the red dot.

It allows the user to acquire a target with accuracy without being aligned directly with the eyes.

The main interest is to quickly increase the accuracy without limiting the arc of view.

This allows to acquire and fire on a target without losing sight of the environment.

The only cost being a reduction of movements when it’s used, making the player an easier target, especially in close combat.

Recoil has a major effect too, and forces you to compensate regularly to keep your target well aligned.

From a tactical point of view, we recommend to activate it exclusively when a target is aligned.

As soon as the target is down deactivate it to move back to your normal speed.

By using it this way you will gain from it’s quality without the inconvenience.

From a general stand point the Red Dot Sight is useful in all environments.

It is good in the open and close environments as long as you develop the right reflexes.

The Red Dot Sight appears to be the most versatile add on that you can choose in Call of Duty 4.

It is mostly adapted for a player with an aggressive way of playing, that like to move around and need to eliminate multiple target as fast as possible.

Psi Ops The Mindgate Conspiracy review

Heres a game mechanic we don’t see everyday and lil o in the 2003…or was it from 2005 era…anyways you can throw guys everywhere, make their heads pop ,control em and burn em ….and all that WITH yOUR MIND!!!
The game is great, original, not bad graphics for the time and good production values…not to mention the game has ALOT of extras and i think you need to find Evil gnomes to unlock most of em and you can also view the movies from the game as well and also replay the game with different skins…although boss battles weren’t expected….they weren’t bad for the most part …well happy head poping.

Call of Duty 4 Modern Warfare ACOG Review

Posted by Attila On June - 20 - 2008

The ACOG is a type of scope. This add on can be added to nearly all the weapons of Call of Duty 4. The main interest of the ACOG is to allow the player to aim at a target with precision at long range.

The ACOG has 3 negative impacts though.
It reduces the accuracy.
It limits the view of the player outside of the scope and reduce the movement speed when activated.

This means that it is important to activate the ACOG exclusively when the target is acquired and in the middle of your reticule. We recommend the ACOG uses especially at the hardcore difficulty since the enemies are weaker.

From a tactical point of view, we recommend the ACOG for players that adopt a defensive and careful approach. The ACOG leads the player to act as a supporting role and provide cover for his team, staying at a safe distance from the enemies. Moving crouched or prone to get a better stability provides an advantage to it’s user. Of course, if for a more offensive style, we recommend the use of the Red Dot Sight.

Finally, in general, the ACOG isn’t a very popular add on, since those that adopt a defensive stance tend to prefer a sniper rifle then an Assault Rifle with the ACOG.
