Sir Ken Robinson on Creativity

Posted by Attila On March - 16 - 2007

It’s rare we post video that we didn’t created, but on rare moment we think it worth it.

Here is a video from “TED talks” from TED.com. It’s a conference by Sir Ken Robinson, author of Out of Our Minds: Learning to be Creative, and a leading expert on innovation and human resources. (Recorded February, 2006 in Monterey, CA.)

This is a very entertaining and enlightening video about creativity in education.

Watch and listen closely it really worth it

We think this video is really interesting for any one here on the blog, as normal people from every age, since it can inspire you to realize his own creative potential. What is said does apply in real life and video game in our opinion or any of your future projects. We are all good at something. It’s not because educational system or others don’t understand it that any of you can’t reach your full creative potential both in real life and video games.

Play for Fun or Play to Own? My thoughts/ranting.

This is my first of many editorials, yes it’s not all that good but my writing quality to improve over time. So here it goes.

I’ve posted numorous videos with my own gameplay onto YouTube for months now and one thing I noticed was all the comments I got on “how much u suk” or “i cud own u sooooo bad!!!!!”. Most of the time I delete these. I hate these kind of comments because of the intent they seem to have, which is to hurt someone else’s feelings or damage their self-esteem. But lately I’ve been getting more of them, since I posted my RA2 videos and it’s been driving me nuts.

If you’re one those people who posted those kinds of comments on my (or anyone else’s) videos, I have a message for you:

I’m sorry I am not an awesome gamer with hardcore skills like Attila16 or any other gamer out who tries to get good at their games. I for one try to have fun with games and don’t care if I suck or not. I like just having fun and I see in doing so.

Now lets talk about what I really wanted to talk about here…

Is playing video games about trying to be great at them or just something to have fun with?

Playing a game for me is about enjoying myself. It should be like that for everyone. Playing for glory per se is not a healthy thing. It takes the fun out of playing a game and causes someone to strive for prefection. Perfection is immpossible and I see no reason to persue it. It’s okay to play a game and be very good at it but it isn’t about just being good. It’s about being happy.

I remember playing Command & Conquer Red Alert 1 a few months ago and having a good friend who did the same. That perfectly fine but he would never stop talking about how much I suck and how much he could beat me. He is an example of a sect of gamers that only seem to care about being good.

Well, this is my opinion, you can tell me yours in the comments.
