Swat 4

Friday, June 29th, 2007

I have Swat 4 for a year now and when my computer crashed this week :( I installed it again. Swat 4 is a great FPS were you have a team that you have to give orders and you need to secure hostages. It’s a bit like Rainbow 6, though you get more points if you can cuff (put handcuffs on) a terrorist. The singleplayer consist out of +/- 13 missions and get’s very hard (for me) when you reach the last levels. You play with a point system: getting your teammates killed are bad points, cuffing terrorists and let the hostages survive are good points. I played the singleplayer for 2 weeks every night 1 or 2 hours, but I played the multiplayer most (you get points for killing, more for cuffing). If you’re interested the expansions are also really good. So I installed the game and recorded the first online battle I played.

If you’re looking for a realistic FPS, I would advise Swat 4. Rainbow 6 vegas is better, but the system requirements of that game are higher.

Day of defeat source

Thursday, June 28th, 2007

This is one of my favorite games, second only to counter strike source, its great fun, a very chaotic fps game, also you rely more on your team for cover, backup, ammunition, cover fire ect. its very fun if you can get into a clan. From experience i can tell you that scrimming in DoD:s is very different from most fps games. once again, great fun and chaotic, if you are the type who is into large scale squad based fps’s you must look into Day of Defeat source!

Half-life 2

Tuesday, June 26th, 2007

Just a small trailer on the game Half life 2, if you haven’t got this game yet, go out and buy it from the store! its awesome!

This game comes with Counter Strike Source, Half-Life 2 Deathmatch and great modding tools. There is many mods for it already.

BF2 Operation

Monday, June 25th, 2007

This is the very first video I ever made. The action takes place on an online ranked Battlefield 2 server. All the action is from 2 rounds of Battlefield 2 on the map Strike at Karkand.

Battlefield 2 is such a good game. You could buy that game and you would probably never need to buy another game ever again.
Everyone who can, and likes FPS should definitly try this game.

Anyhow, the video shows me getting some kills with the assault gun and grenade launcher. Hope you enjoy and leave feedback.

Demos you should play and not to play. 24/6/07

Sunday, June 24th, 2007

this week there were even less demos then last week, this week there were only 3. but on the good side all of them are playable. here is the link as always

http://filelist.filefront.com/LatestGameDemos

Demos you should play!

Alice Greenfingers

The story is about Alice who wants to run her own ecological busniess, you will recive help from your grandmother who

supports you. the whole point of the game is to grow tomatoes, flowers and more sell them to the public and become

famous. if you dont take care of your plants they might die and if people find out that your tomatoes taste bad, and your

flowers are not looking good the demand for it will fall and you will have to sell your wares cheaper. all of this can get very

addictive, but for us males this might get to dry and boring but i still feel you should give it a try even if it has no violence.

people who dreams of creating there own ecological busniess will be at heaven here and if you have a daughter or sister tell

her about this game. the only bad thing to be said is that the game gets repetetive after a while and that the game doesnt

look colorful or good at all, sound and voice acting is horrible and not there at all. this game is just pure gameplay and

nothing else. but if you are what i said above you should give Alice Greenfingers a try and by the way this is a 60 min trial.

7,0 of 10, demo size 2 mb

The Apprentice Los Angeles

This is the demo of the week. you know the drill of this game if you have seen the apprentice avoid the boardroom and

make you and your team famous. you begin the game by picking the characther you want to be, note you can read a

biography of them though this means nothing for how they will do for the rest of the game. and then you pick a team and

its off to go. the first mission is a sushi resturant in little tokyo and you have to make it sucsessful. if you have played cake

mania and if you know what it is then this will be exactly like that, if you have not played it, it means that your the leader

and you get customers and you must do what the customers want from you. as you progress in the sushi bar mission, new

items like green pepper, a women with umbrellas and new products appear. and more and more customers appear making

the game harder and harder. all of this is very addictive and it almost makes you cry this is only a 60 min trial. if you fail

you are sent to the boardroom where you and two others fight in a mini game where it is the famous find the two pictures

that look the same. this is also very addictive and fun though the AI here seems to make all the right decisions making you

lose almost all the time. afterwards in the game you get too a clothes store which is alot harder this was also very addictive

though i found one bug and that was when people wanted to try there new clothes they used alot of time, making the other

customers angry and the mission alot more harder then it should be. unfortunately my trial runned out of time, mainly

because this is the 1,1 demo and i only had 35 mins left of my trial. graphics looks very colorful and slick and voice acting is

top notch overall this is something you should try.

9,5 of 10 49 mb

Devastro

In this game earth is invaded by aliens and you and some others are the only one who can stop them. the war camed at a

bad time since many other wars are currently going on. your goal stop the alien invasion! at your disposal is some

comrades, greandes and a machine gun. the game starts with you general which shouts that you must stop the

alien invasion and bla bla bla. This game is very fun shooting these aliens and brains rocks, when you throw a grenade a

huge boom comes of and its funny. you also will find some sausers sometimes which you will have to destroy. after some

levels new monsters starts to appear like flying brains and some robots which can only be damaged by greandes. after

a while the game starts to get repetetive because its only destroy all enemy and destroy all sausers. some new guns would

also be cool as using the machinegun and greandes gets boring after a while, the lack of different looking maps is also sad

as the maps all look the same and that is forest maps and maybe some water. the game lacks colors and the game needs

some voice acting. and just as the game starts to get fun because you find a vehicle as soon as you drive it the demo ends,

darn!!! but to cut a long story short if your looking to just kill and absolutely own some aliens this is it. if your looking for

depth, story, graphics and quality voice acting you will have to look somewhere else.

7,5 of 10 and the demo was 19 mb.

overall it was a bit dissapointing this week since there were only 3 demos, it would be cool to see some big demos like maybe a crysis demo or something but on the good side none of the demos where boring overall a medicore demo week. 5,0 of 10.

Should Attila be nominated for “Total War community Outstanding Achievement Award”???

Friday, June 22nd, 2007

Today Saint Lucas pointed out that the Total War blog will have a community award thing you can see it there http://blogs.sega-europe.com/blogs/totalwar/entry/20070615

Saint Nicholas proposed to nominate me for “the Outstanding Achievement Award.”

“For a site or an individual who has made an unrivaled contribution to the Total War community.”

In all humility my (over) 400 Total War video seem to fit as “an unrivaled contribution to the Total War community.”

I must say I don’t even know if anyone at SEGA or Creative Assembly have a single Idea that I exist.

So now it’s time to ask yourself what you can do for me after I entertained you for a year? :)

Well just go to the previously posted link and tell SEGA and Creative Assembly by leaving a comment that they should nominate Attila! Tell them why they should And where to find me. Do that in great number this way they won’t be able to ignore us as in great part member of the Total War community (even if I’m currently on a break from it).

You can also tell them there if you a member of the total war community forum, http://shoguntotalwar.yuku.com/topic/18110/t/Total-War-Community-Awards.html

Thanks for believing in my work and that’s a good way to prove it! :D

Now to those that don’t remember here is what I did:
Rome Total War Carthage 87 episodes
German Chronicle 76 episodes
Sicilian Chronicles 17 episodes
Polish Chronicles 33 episodes
Turkish Chronicles 45 episodes
Holy Roman Empire chronicles 17 episodes

And I skip the independant ones.

Globally my videos were saw 2 248 561 time. So thanks every one for the great success. :)

Here is a small video i did to encourage my youtube community to do the same :)

Some Heavy Action in AA

Sim City 4 New York

Thursday, June 21st, 2007

My interpretation of New York City made using Sim City 4 Rush Hour.

Population is well over 300,000, with 150,000 commercial jobs and just under 1000 tech jobs. There is a very good mass transit system my city. The entire city is covered by an underground subway system. New York has very good Health and Education systems and there is plenty for my sims to do to relax.

I achieved maximum rating for this city.

M2TW Strategicon - Handbook of M2TW strategy

Monday, June 18th, 2007

This is a little taster of a work in progress, which when finished will cover everything that prima strategy guides and the like have failed to do so with practically every total war game ever made…

Even the newest strategy guide for M2TW fails to please; just read the reviews on amazon etc.

for this sample of my guide I’m going to introduce a simple battle formation and explain its strengths and weaknesses and then I’m going to back up what I’m saying with a video.

1. Form your army in two lines

“To form the whole army simply in one line facing the enemy and to hold nothing in reserve for various eventualities in case of a reverse, is the mark of an inexperienced and absolutely reckless man.”

- Maurices Strategicon, Handbook of Byzantine military strategy (translated by George T. Dennis)

At first you might disagree with this and state that a single line allows you to envelop the enemy army and attack his flanks. The M2TW adviser even says this when you choose the ’single line’ formation for the first time. This is just not correct, common sense should sound alarm bells as staking the fate of your whole army in one ‘throw’ is a bad idea.

Problems with simply forming a single line:

  1. If the army is large the line is hard to manage and maintain, with parts of it possibly on unfavorable terrain. It also might not fit on your whole screen so you may miss important events like units routing etc.
  2. The single line formation is itself easily flanked, with no support units or reserve to prevent such an enemy maneuver.
  3. When units start to rout the negative morale will often ‘roll’ along the whole line causing the the whole army to rout.
  4. If units are routed or pushed back, there are no support units to ‘plug’ the gaps, allowing enemy units to pour through and flank, which is devastating.

My suggested alternative:

2 line formation

As seen in the diagram 2 main lines are formed; the Main battle line, and the support line.

Flank Guard:

Behind the left flank there is the ‘Flank guard’ who prevents enemy units from flanking the left side and rear of the main battle line. The Flank guard also joins the main battle line if the enemy battle line is longer.

Outflankers:

The ‘Outflankers’ are stationed behind the right wing of the main battle line and they have the same job as the flank guard but are used primarily to flank and ambush the enemy battle lines right flank.

Battle line length:

Your battle line should be made to be equal to the enemies, if possible. As stated above if the enemy line is longer than yours then always add the flank guard to your battle line first. If your battle line still is less than the enemies then and only then, add the outflankers unit to your main battle line.

Basic use of Flank guard and Outflankers:

When the your battle line is equal to the enemies then the flank guard and outflanker units will remain in their original positions and protect the flanks of the battle line, and when your battle line and the enemies are engaged they should move outwards and turn about to attack the corresponding flank of the enemies battle line.

both battle lines equal

enemy line longer

enemy line still longer

Extra word on Flank guard and Outflankers:

Even though they have the same job, they are called by these names (I didn’t come up with these names by the way, Emperor Maurice did) because the battle line was usually flanked on the left, although not necessarily the case in M2TW. I have decided to keep these names for a sense of realism and for example if I say “expand your battle line to meet the enemies in length”, you would know i mean to add the ‘Flank guard’ to my battle line from reading the paragraphs above.

You could just as easy add the ‘Outflanker’ unit to the main battle line first, but by doing things exactly the way I have said it will make it easier to learn and to become familiar with. If its not broke - don’t fix it…

The support line:

The support line plugs any hole in the main battle line and can also protect the rear of the main line. When units in the battle line become from tired/very tired/exhausted - wavering, units from the support line should move out and take their place, with the unit being replaced in the main battle line reforming in the space left in the support line.

This may prevent a full scale ‘rout’ and will keep your battle line ‘fresh’, whist the enemy battle line tires.

You should constantly monitor your main battle line and note its ‘morale’, its level of fatigue and its number of troops. Until you can do this quickly you can pause the game periodically until you are competent.

If your army is being directly flanked from behind and the rear guard cannot manage the attack, the support line can offer assistance also.

Rear guard:

Your general, and light cavalry should form the rear guard which protects the rear of the army. Towards the end of the battle when units are tired and the support line is a mostly (if not totally) engaged in battle, the general should be moved up to provide morale boosts to units that may be wavering or are getting tired. Light cavalry is for chasing routing troops.

Any one who has played M2TW has found it frustrating to rout an enemy unit and then have it reform and come back with devastating results minutes later. Once and enemy unit has routed, chase after it with your light cavalry, avoiding any remaining enemy units that are not routing. Focus your battle line on the enemy units that have not routed and do not give chase to those that do with infantry unless you have no cavalry at all. Use waypoints to enable your light cavalry to eliminate each routing enemy unit one after the other allowing you to focus on the battle at hand.

Final formation notes:

The formation can be adapted to include heavy cavalry, which ideally should be placed on both flanks of the support line, and used in co-ordination with the flank guard and outflankers.

Archers that are good in melee can be used as a flank guard and outflanker units, allowing them to fire flaming or standard arrows into the enemy flanks before a charge.

The support line should consist of about a 1/3 of your army and you can mix archers with men at arms in the support line, particularly if the archers are good in melee combat (e.g. retinue longbow, janissary archers, Byzantine guard archers etc) .

Other archer types shouldn’t get in the way of the support line and battle line activities and if of the basic kind should lie between the support line and the rear guard if not part of the support line.

Hope this proves useful, and like a said its work in progress, this particular section will probably be added to before I release the final version.

Regards,

iRIDS

P.S. - the diagrams are mine, (made in Photoshop CS2).

Medieval II Total War Cinematic Editor

Medieval 2 Total War

Monday, June 18th, 2007

Been a while since I’ve posted a video :( , but I’mm starting a new “project”, a kind of M2TW ‘Strategicon’.

I’ve always been interested in medieval history etc and i have just finished reading Maurice’s Strategicon - the handbook of Byzantine military strategy, which is a great book similar to that of Sun Zu - the Art of war, but was used more by generals (not just Byzantine generals) during the medieval times.

This kind of increased my interest in the Byzantines and it made me think about how much ive learned could be relavent to the gameplay of M2TW.

Anyways lookout for that coming your way but for now heres a Byzantine campaign heroic victory battle, where i try out some harrassment techniques ive been learning.

The enemy attacked me with a Spear + archer army however their spear units were Italian militia with +1 experience and where far more powerful than my slav mercenaries and Byzantine spear men (these guys melt away like butter when in prolonged melee). The enemy general was a unit of armoured sergents which are pretty damn good as far as spearmen go.

Ive been thinking of adding verbal commentary to my videos so i can talk about what i’m doing and why, which saves me writing alot… meh ;-)

anyways enjoy…

Demos you should play and not to play 17/06/2007.

Sunday, June 17th, 2007

This week there were a lot less demos then last week. this week there were 6.

http://filelist.filefront.com/LatestGameDemos

here is the link to the latest demos.

but lets begin with the demos you should play!

H-Craft Championship

Its a sci-fi racing game which means that it has a Wipeout style of gameplay if you remember that game. if you dont it means that the you steer a ship thats flying on the ground. the demo includes championship with one tutorial mission and to championship missions. if you win all of these three. arcade mode and time trial opens. in arcade mode there is a cool snow map which where you can pick from 1 lap to 15 laps. i advice you to try this map. the time trial is you know trying to beat you ghost. and then its time attack where you have to race 3 laps in a certain time. the AI posess a great challenge but sadly the AI never seems to make any mistakes. the ship was also overly sensitive which made the game frustrating. but the levels were awesome and fun to play. the graphics were also beatiful. especcialy the snow map. H-Craft championship is an addivtive racing game and i advice you to try it.

8,5 of 10. The demo is 24 mb so dont worry about the time it takes to download it.

Making History The Calm And The Storm

Now this demo if something history buffs will love. its a turn based strategy game set right before the world war which means that you can change the history completely. The game has a very tough learning curve so i advice you to try the tutorial which covers the basics of map movement, miliary and production. the game includes one scenario where germany has just taken over the chech replublic. it will take some time to learn the game and get into the game but if you have the time and the patience you will discover how addictive this game can get. the whole point of the game is to achive the most points and achive world domination which you can set from all from just a little bit of the world to the whole world. the graphics arent medieval 2 total war but it gets the job done with its colorful look. the sounds are almost non exsistant which was dissapointing but overall a very fun demo for hardore strategy game veterans.

8,0 of 10 the demo was 277 mb.

The Pirates Of The Carribien At worlds End

As you probably can figure the game is from the movie. The game starts off with you in a prison and a guy comes up to you and tells you to meet him at the dock. On your way you must rescue prisoners solve easy puzzles and fight off guards. this game is very easy which makes the game suitable for kids but it was made from disney so no wonder… the mission structure was also uninteresting. but it was kind of fun anyway cause the music really set a good mood for the game. it fealt a little medival like. the voice acting was pretty bad and annoying. the fights were entertaining since you could use bombs, guns and throwing knives. you could do some pretty cool moves. but the sad part again is that its way to easy. the controls were hard to figure which was annoying since the game doesnt tell you anything about them. the graphics were horrible and nasty but from some distance away it didnt look to bad. but overall if you have a kid or you love platforming games. then Pirates Of the Carribbean is the only choice of this weeks demos. overall a satisfactory demo.

6,0 of 10 and the demo was 319 mb.

Overlord

This was simply by far the best demo of the week. in this game your summoned to life again by some nasty goblins. In this game your evil and you have underlings to help you and follow you through. you wont be doing most of the fighting you underlings will. but anyway the game starts with a little tutorial which teaches you how to summon creatures and how to send them against enemies and also how you can attack. after that you must try to find the tower heart of your evil tower which has been destroyed by some wannabe heroes. to summon your underlings you must kill things like sheeps and stuff which is really cool. as you progress in the demo you have found out that some fat guys are trying to destroy the city and you and your underlings must destroy them. the combat is very funny as your underlings and the fat kids fight eachother. you also have an axe and a fireball spell if you have to get a little nasty yourself. the cool thing with the fireball spell is the if it hits grass the fireball will spread across the forest and burn it. in the end of the demo you meet with you first boss named Kalvin and for once this boss is hard to beat. i used 5 mins on beating him. when the boss is beaten the demo ends. now the voice acting here is excellent which has some amazingly funny british humor. listening to the enviroment is beatiful, birds will chirp in the background and sheeps will do their bææææ sounds. the game has a day and night cycle which means you will hear all sorts of beatiful night sounds. the sound is perfect. the graphics are simply breathtaking. with beatful trees, characthers, mountains in the background. the map is very nicely detailed and everything is simply amazing. animations are wonderful. the only bad things to be said is the mouse is overly sensitive which makes for some annoying combat and movement at times. there were also several camera problems. controlling your minions was also very frustrating at times, and you should also have a gamepad as the controls were hard to work with. but overall great gameplay, perfect sounds and graphics makes up for these bugs. and not to forget the amazing humor.

9,5 of 10 but the demo was 1,1 gigs so you better get a good connection or you will wind up waiting all night for this.

Now The demos you should not play!

Lunar Domination:

This game includes a tutorial and one scenario. the whole point of this game is to capture two thirds of an map. by not killing but making money and putting your opponent out of busniess. the tutorial does a good job of introdusing you to the game but the one scenario you are playing winds up becoming insanely hard. your opponent will just dominate you all the time. and building things is only something you can dream of has you always seem to be out of money. the map looks VERY uninteresting and undetailed and there are absolutely no sounds. Lunar ends up falling flat on the back.

4,0 of 10 6 mb.

KAM The Shattered Kingdom

This game includes a battle and one mission. the battle is simple you fight either you win or you lose. only luck is required no skill no tactics like in Medieval. The mission is very uninteresting. where all you have to do is to build get a huge army and destroy. the sounds are terrible and annoying and the camera is ultra sensitive which makes things very frustrating. the game looks horrible and there are no details. but the units looks colorful to the games credit. but overall KAM needs alot of work, there is some minor potential and the developers needs to work on it.

3,0 of 10 its 15 mb.

Overall this demo week was not as good as last weeks but overall a solid demo week. and by the way try Overlord its a must try. this demo week get a 6,5 of 10.

NavyField

Friday, June 15th, 2007

lately I redownloaded a game I had try a long time ago in beta. NavyField is a kind of Massive online multiplayer about making huge WWII ship battles. Basically you hire a crew and pay credit to buy better ship and weapons as you level up. It’s a Free video game but for those that end up fanatic of it, you can alway buy “unique” ship. So it’s a fun tactical game that worth a look even if it’s in 2D it’s a lot of fun. It’s a under 400 meg and you can go to the Navyfield official website check it out.

Hearts of Iron 2: Doomsday, My DD sunk a CV!

Thursday, June 14th, 2007

This is silly and cool. I felt like sharing it.

Hearts of Iron 2
(Right like and select Veiw Image to see it.)

This is just one of those moments in a game. How can a Destoryer sink an Aircraft Carrier?

Heres some more info on the battle:

My fleet:
3 Destoyers with ASW brigades attached.

Their fleet:
1 Carrier, 1 Heavy Crusier, and two Destoryers.

I lost:
All but one DD.
They lost all but the two DDs.

Overall, the engagment was a neither a victory or a defeat. The Americans have more CVs then I can count but losing one is good enough. But I also lost my anti sub fleet, now the allies can raid my convoys. :( Watching the battle was fun though. I was biting my lip the whole time!

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion - The Forlorn Watchman

Wednesday, June 13th, 2007

This is a small video showing The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion - The Forlorn Watchman Quest. It’s not a really hard quest overall but it’s a cool story from oblivion. The main ghost is really hard to kill depending you equipment. I’m just a level 2 character at that point. Enjoy :D

Pirates of the Caribbean: At World End

Monday, June 11th, 2007

This video was too big for youtube… Anyway… Here is a video from the Pirates of the Caribbean: At World End demo. It shows all the content of the demo and me playing. Really seem like a console game. It’s really linear and the hardness part was the first chicken at the beginning. This was hard because the keyboard controllers are really not intuitive… the enter button being use for the inventory you can’t skip the tips without changing the inventory button to an other button… Video game designer always make small mistake like that I guess…

So over all it’s fun and I guess the full game is probably enjoyable when but when you finish it one time, there is probably not much interest to play it again…

If you interested by it, you can buy it with a quick search on the store, in pc games and consoles! ;)
