Well actually… “Next Gen” only define “Nex Gen” consoles games.
Computer game are still on the same generation of hardware so any pc games can not be define as next gen…

In general, I would say that every game which is obviously taking one big step forward in matters of technology (graphics, streaming) and concerning the actual gameplay and design (level design, maybe storyline, of course graphics again and just everything that is responsible for taking your breath while sitting in front of the screen :D) could be called “Next Gen”. Right now, I think, we are in a period of real gaming blockbusters: Halo 3, Assassins Creed, Need for Speed Pro Racer, Crysis, Metal Gear Solid 4, Mass Effect, GTA 4 (hopfefully rather soon) and Gears of War if you want to add it to the list. Those extend the limits of gaming in many respects and Call of Duty 4 with its high action density, kick-ass graphics and design is definitely also one of those games that is just part of a new generation. However, I’m already curious what the next generation is going to be like :D!

here is what i mean by those game are not next generation…

Computer are still on the “first generation” since they were invented.
I’m more curious about what will be the second generation of computer then the current “next gen” console.
The term next gen, is currently use as a marketing tool since it sound “cool” and by being cool it will sell more games by making people believe that they are part of something new, but if you ask me so far I’m not that impress by “next gen”, they are an evolution in console video games, updating those game to the PC standard of 3 years ago and since soo much energies is deployed for those console well that slow down pc games evolution.

Of course it is a term currently used by the media and you are right, saying that its strongly linked with the idea of making profit. Their attempts are incredibly succesful because from my point of view the expression “next gen” became a collective term for all new games, may it be console or PC games - the idea behind next gen, the idea of rule-breaking innovative gaming software.

Once again its about the console vs. PC discussion
Well, lets take a look back at 2004:
Half-Life 2, World of Warcraft, the great Rome: Total War (^.^), Sims 2, yadda, yadda, yadda;
So, I don’t think that our Next gen consoles have to hide from comparison - per contra, they are superior in almost every respect.
So whats about the consoles in 2004?
GTA San Andreas, Halo 2, Metal Gear Solid 3 - Snake Eater;
Weren’t these games great?
Maybe I’m repeating myself, but consoles are an huge market and its the best way to reach a really big target group because: they are cheap, they are almost as powerful as PC’s through the optimizied and specified way they are made, they are supporting coop and multiplayer modi.
Finally, more gain in the industry means more budget, means more resources, means more possibilities, means better games! I think that we all benefit from consoles
