Rome Total War Carthage Chronicles: Battle 02

I must say those old battle are really funny to watch since I really don’t remember what happened in them. :D

This second battle was against the Greek in Sicily. Since the Roman were previously kicked out of Sicily, the Greek were the second menace on the island. The main advantage of destroying Greece force on that Island is really that you can be sure they won’t come back later. ;)

This battle is really interesting, my Iberian infantry and town militia were really no match against phalanx troops, so I had to do a really great job with my light cavalry to isolate the enemies and kill them one unit at a time.

I must say I’m a little surprise by my strategy (Seem I have evolved since then, :) ). I divide my cavalry into two group, my general and elephant and my light cavalry on the other flank. I engaged my general with elephant first on the right flank against archer. They slowly advanced into the enemy rank. I only engaged my light cavalry on the Left flank after they got engage first. Finally I engaged my main force only when I became sure that they would not rout when in front of the phalanx and that my cavalry could do most of the job from attacking in the back.

That was an other nice battle: D

yeah personally that “first” campaign chronicle is my favorite. Carthage is (in my opinion) one of the hard faction to start. I think Seleucid or Partha are the only 2 harder to start with.

yes that chronicle its really good, well i also like more than the germans chronicles

  4. Attila Says:

Yeah the German chronicles was nice, but it turned out easier then expected and phalanx did all the job overall, so was a little repetitive. The Carthage Chronicles had more diversity at the beginning.

    exactly

idd falanxes are too powerfull in this game

  7. Attila Says:

yeah the main problem with phalanx in RTW, is that once you stoped the charge, rare are the enemies that will ever be able to hit one of the soldier in the phalanx, making it the perfect melee unit. The only think that can really destroy a phalanxes is missile units over time and attack on multiple side.

I don’t think that’s true the computer always attacks my phalanxes in the flanks and the scythians attacked my phalanxes from the flanks and behind, constantly moving around (with foot units not cavarly which is more impressive) my army was isolated and they had mounted archers so my troops were completely outclassed. You really do need to defend against flanking maneuvers. With the germans it’s more fun to use berserkers and chosen axemen as the spear warbands are expensive, it feel’s like i need a diagram but 4 phalanxes is enough otherwise your army becomes an inflexible, and as you said boring vulnerability. At what difficulty were the battles set?

  9. Attila Says:

well scythians are not really the kind of enemies to attack with phalanxes I admit. I tend to recrut more cavalry when i fight those. or I hold bridge or engage them in the city, this way they don’t have the advantage of cavalry.

Attila how would you fight a phalanx army with no calvary except your general? I need your help!

  15. Attila Says:

put your troop on hold formation, send troops to flank the enemies has you main battle group gain time, once flanked charge the enemy from the flank and rear.
