Medieval II Total War Battle Tactics pt 2
This second part in the series shows a simple and quick way of moving your missile units behind your infantry in a nice straight line with 2 keys: shift + 4 (’Sorted Double Line‘ formation)
- Place your missile units in a line with your infantry behind them, also in a line.
- Group the missile units and infantry together.
- When the enemy get close or prepare to charge:
- Disable ‘fire at will‘ for missile units (’A’ key).
- Press shift + 4 to move units into ‘sorted double line‘ formation.
- Press ‘R’ to make them run. (you can select the group and press ‘R’ before you change formation also).
This can also have the effect of the enemy units still try to attack the missile units and so bunch up towards the center. The diagrams explain a little better:

note :
- red = enemy
- orange = missile units
- black = infantry
If the enemy bunch towards the center then you can wrap around their flanks as shown in the video which gives a morale penalty for the enemy, not to mention it is effective against enemy spear units.
The video is not as fluid as i would like, so ill make another to go along with this one, practice makes perfect. This was the 1st time ive tried this strategy, but you can see it works quite nicely, and again as with part one, you can imagine and implement your own variations to suit each situation.
At the very least this offers you a nice technique of moving you missile units behind your front line without dragging a line and risking changing their formation and depth etc.

iRIDS

Great vid man ! I have a suggestion though, if you show the moves you are doing i.e by having the interface up it’s easier to see how to deploy the tactic. Salute!

Im sure it will as the way units chose a target and follow a path to that target hasnt changed in M2TW.
sinan, ill be asking our good firend attila to edit my last two post with vids showing my real time gameplay of these strategies when ive made em.
just curious, has anyone tried this tactic, and has it worked ok for them?

Hey iRIDS, nope actually I tried it a few times but I got a whooping. I still won the battle ofc (doh!) but I took major losses. That’s part of the reason why I asked if you show what moves you did with the interface. I must be doign something wrong with the commands. In your vid it looks dead easy, so it must be ! Thanks for listening to my suggestion. Game ON !!!

Hi iRIDS, I’m making a video of M2:TW with a couple of people. I’d like to have a chat with you about a few things and ask for your help. Can we chat on IM ? MY MSN is the same as my email (which you should be able to see in my comment posts). Cheers and thanks.

Hey, the tactic works nice but.. this is happens when you are with larger number and i usually prefer to fight with smaller numbers that my enemys
so do you have any tactics for small groups vs big groups?
