Medieval II Total War: Holy Roman Empire Chronicles 01-02: Turn 01-08
After some thinking I choose to make this latest and last Medieval II Total War Chronicles available only on the Dateyourgame.com Blog for a simple reason: I have more control over it, it’s easier for people to participate and it’s far less work for me. This will be a short campaign, but I will try to write interesting and useful stuff.Enjoy
When you start a campaign there are two main objectives you must achieve: The first is making as much money as you can, as fast as you can. This means you must produce roads. Roads take one turn to produce. They won’t bring you too much money, but the speed at which you produce them will allow you to finance your farms fast afterward. The farms are your second economic resource, they give you money and increase your population, bringing in more taxes.
Your second objective is really to capture as many rebel cities and forts as you can before your enemies capture them. Once all of the rebel cities and forts are capture that’s when war against your competing faction becomes a necessity to expand.
Another important thing is to get as many alliances as you can early in the game. The more allies you have, the more factions will try to stay allies with you. But it’s important to consider alliances as breakable and you should never trust any ally. That’s why most of the time if you see that your ally is weak on your frontier, take this opportunity to invade them exactly as Venice did against me leading to this siege.
This siege is not that big but I show my “classic” tactic of getting my cavalry out of the city and charging the siege equipment with them. There are different advantages to doing this. The first is that as soon as your troops engage the enemies they will drop the siege equipment. This will gain you some time and in this video set the battering ram on fire. Without it the enemies are forced to retreat since they can’t enter the city anymore. The other nice thing about using this tactic is if the enemies have more siege equipment, you can destroy all of their siege weapons except one. What that means is that you can lead the enemies to the wall you want them to attack and kill all of their units one by one. I recommend leaving the tower in piece, since when you use this strategy and leave only ladder to get the enemy on the walls there is a bug that make the game go to 1 fps. The other advantage of leaving the tower alone is that once you have stopped the first wave of enemies; the following enemies come one by one, allowing your troops to kill them very easily.
