Here is a Rome Total War movie I made using the Lord of the Rings mod. I have tried to demonstate the level of detail that has gone into this mod as best I can.

This is probably the best mod I have ever played and I would urge anyone who can to download it.

Last day armykid45 brought to my attention a thing I wanted to make an editorial about since 2005 but always ended up too lazy to make anything of it. So this morning I started answering him but turned out in an editorial. Here is the resulting of what I think about ranking systems in video games and the thinking behind what I mean by what I told him:

“Rank just show how much you play and not how good you are.”

More and more the video games use ranking system to get player addicted by rewarding with abstract ranking system. Those ranking system have different impact but the first goal of the developer is to create an addiction in a really Pavlovian manner, that’s a good thing if it works, since the player will enjoy the game for a long time due to the constant pressure of levelling up. But the impact is the endless human attitude to compare themselves base on statistic and that’s where it really doesn’t mean much from a practical stand point.

Myth The Fallen Lord Ranking
For example, back in the Myth the Fallen lord days (1997). I became the 225 best plays on 64000 players. I wasn’t that good but I was an Emperor and all proud of myself. Then I took a break of a couple of months. By the time I played again they had restarted ranks. So I was back to the dagger rank. Then I fought a 2vs2 battle, I was with a “Lord” and I was a “dagger” against 2 emperors (best rank before the 10 best players). I won and the two emperors lost many point for being beat up by a Dagger. (They told me I had cost them many ranking).

Rainbow Six Raven Shield
After 2 days of playing Rainbow Six Raven Shield. I was the 72 best players and I certainly wasn’t that good but the rank favoured my stats base on probably many lucky encounters.

World of Warcraft
Bobwolf was use to play WoW with a ranger and he many time killed player of higher rank just by skill.

Battlefield 2
Battlefield 2 rank system is base on point you have by playing. That mean that if you just starting playing your rank will be low, that doesn’t mean you won’t be able to dominate the game either by pure luck or by experience from other game you played before.

America’s Army
America’s Army rank gives your “honour” rank base on point you make. I played is since it came out but rarely. So I was good but since I rarely played I had low honour. So high honour player could not believe they were defeated by a low rank player. So they were thinking I was cheating and I would not be surprise if some admin did scan my game to see if I was cheating. I created my account on the 30-OCT-03 when you start you have 10 honour. In 2005 I was 24 of honour. I then decided to play a lot during 1 week or 2 and didn’t played since, I’m now a 39 of honour. So I have gain more rank in 2 weeks then in 2 years just by playing more with the expediential effect of my skill.

Rainbow Six Vegas
Rainbow Six Vegas on Xbox has a rank system similar to battlefield and allow unlocking guns. On pc it’s not the case. So I’m able to use equipment most Xbox player don’t have yet. Since most of them think I play on Xbox, well they think I’m an “Elite” and insult me of over playing the game. I think every one here know that If I was over playing that game, you would be flood by videos of it.

Conclusion
Rank is really a subjective thing that really doesn’t reflect the true skill of a player. In my opinion the best skill a player can have is the capacity to enjoy what he play without having to be stimulated by any Pavlovian stuff the game developer comes out with. That is why I rarely ever play anything that has any rank stuff in it.

Here is a reason why I didn’t posted many video lately. I have been experimenting a little with the movie cam thing of Medieval II Total War and here is the result. It’s far from reaching the full potential. Because my hardware isn’t good enough for the way that thing record… I probably won’t make more of those considering the cost in time and hardware.

It’s getting time for dateyourgame.com to get a kind of logo. So this post is intended to offer a chance for the community to give some idea of what the Logo should be.

The goal is to have a good looking, credible logo that will reflect this nice little gamer community.

Personally I have no idea… so feel free to express your creativity. In hope we will collectively think of something that Dateyourgame.com will own the right to with pride. :)

This is an old game, the first in the BF series, it is also my favourite. This is a movie of the many tanks, cars and planes as well as me killing some dumb bots in the game.

As you all know making all those videos as regularly as I did is a lot of work and energy, not to speak of learning. I really like to do it but it’s hard to keep going without any money. So personally. I had hoped to turn that into a self sustained job and so far I used soft way to make very little money. So I added a donation button as soon as I started this blog. So far I had no donation.

So now I think I found a new way to help you help me. I created an online Store where you will be able to buy video games, books, movie, hardware, in the USA and UK.

When you will buy for that store I will get a small part of the price as a reward to help you buy a video game or anything else. You then receive what you bought and at the same time encouraged me to continue and give me the money to improve the quality of the content.

So I would like you guys to take a look and tell me what you think, and more then all, tell me what you would add to the list of stuff you guys would like to buy to help me. :)

As for Medieval II Total War Kingdom Chronicles, as you all know I’m a big fan of Total War. I created over 400 video of that series and I think it’s really point less to create any more video of Total War. Just make a small search about Total war on youtube and you will see that it’s page and page of my videos. First of all having that many videos is unfair for any one else wanting to share videos on youtube with other like I did and having to make his way against my 400 videos isn’t easy. (Good luck). The second thing, some of my videos were not saw as many times as the number of people that have subscribe to me. That mean there is a lot of content that people didn’t learned from all that because my video compete against my own video. So what is the point of making new one when there is still unexplored gem that can’t be see because of the colossal scale of what I did?

Now I do know as a fact that many people would like more Chronicles especially of Kingdom. So since I have no money to buy it. Well here is a chance for the community to do something for itself. If people make enough donations to the cause, I will buy the expansion with the money from donations and also use to finance one chronicles. (By one I mean one series that will be democratically chosen.)

If you consider it 5$ (or more) isn’t much individually but collectively it does make a difference. Not to speak about all the knowledge it gives the viewer.

So I hope you will use those different way I give you to encourage this community to create greater content that will interest you more every time since all the money I will get will be reinvested into this community. :)

The 300 Mod for Mount & Blade has been updated lately. Seem they really did a good job.

Today I checked mods for Mount & Blade since I didn’t checked them in a long time and I found the mod Thermopylae that you can find here
It’s really fun and is still in an alpha stage for the moment so, it will be improved in the future, seem promising :D

Note: just put the folder into your module folder of the game and when launching the game, change native mode to the mode.

Ok, I know you were waiting for it, (or should have). So its finally here Starcraft 2! The trailer show just a marine getting suited up but the way and detail of this CGI will show us how good the game will be. The CGI movies will clearly be a great pleasure to view it since blizzard alway make great CGI animation.

Here is a battle I did against the senate; from that point in the campaign I included some Campaign game play since people were asking for contextual information.

This battle is a kind of assassination mission against the senate. Considering the senate has 9 star commanders, and many many body guards. I had to fight this menace to advance on the Scipii territory. So in the battle I used all my cavalry to kill as many generals as I could with light cavalry. I kill 4 of them and as you can see that was challenging. Then Senate unit are far more developed then the other Roman faction and my light infantry doesn’t last long against those. So as soon as my assassination thing was done, I pulled back with many casualties indeed, but with an enemy far weaker in leadership.

Many people asked me to show myself play against other players at Rainbow Six Vegas. I didn’t tried to do so because it would have lag without much doubt. So after playing with my setup and driver a little, I find out a way to make it playable… Here is the resulting game. (I don’t know if the other player were good or not, since I rarely ever play multiplayer…)

Today I tried to record some multiplayer, but the only playable server I know, was full, so I took was what left, a coop terrorist hunt dedicated server, the difficulty level was normal, so wasn’t a big deal to play and I really wasn’t that careful as you will see.
So here is the resulting recording in from two source. (I think i will standardize that practice for my videos).

I already had a Rainbow Six Vegas Library Walkthrough but it ended up with a crash so I had not completed the mission. So since I reinstalled the game (in french, just for fun…) Well here is me finishing it in a really really lucky run… I think I could have die many time. but turned out I survived. So enjoy! ;)

Episode 13: I continue my advance vs the Carthaginians because they’re one of the easiest factions to beat with Romans. I’m not so good with phalanx units, so that explains my loss.

Episode 14: This is one of the biggest battles I’ve fought till now vs the Numidians, the Numidian power lies in numbers and speed, but their units are weak and don’t have good morale (except their imitation legionaries). So you can kill them easily with enough missile and cavalry units. I haven’t used much tactics, I ran around with my cavalry and let my missile units fire upon their weak missile units, and I have infantry ready in case they come to close to my missile units. I’m proud of the deaths/killed result :D , even if I say so myself.

In the rest of the campaign, I’ve conquered some of the Gallic cities in northern Italy. The Illryans are defeated, I’m advancing on Macedons northern towns and I have conquered Corinth => I’m laying siege on Sparta, if all goes well I shall record how the last Spartans fall against Roman might :P Carthage has been driven to regions in the Sahara desert and aren’t posing a threat anymore so I’ll concentrate on the Numidians. The Marius reformation has also happened so now I’ll have Roman legionaries in my armies. But the end is coming I only need to conquer 6 more cities and I’m victorious, then I’m gonna quit till summer vacation to make new vids, gotta concentrate on my studies, big exams coming.

This is just a little gameplay from Commandos 3. A game that is alot like Silent Storm or Soldiers: Heros of WWII. Commandos 3 is a game thats well worth checking out if you’re looking for a very hard game and is sure please those who like tactical games as well.

Here is a good example of a good use of infantry and cavalry for siege. Personally I don’t recommend using cavalry in a city but in that case it proved to be very effective. As you can see I enter the city and secure my beach head into the city. After some fighting I start advancing. I send my cavalry on the Left as my infantry core attack from the center. Ultimately that proved very useful since the Romans had 4 general body guard units. I divided them and was able to destroy them when they were divided. The victory was clear once I charged the faction leader from the back with my cavalry, eliminating the main menace against my troops. I lost one general in that battle but since the enemy lost 4, it was a fair share.

This battle is my landing in Italy. As you can see once again I have a big cavalry force. With that cavalry I move around attack the enemies on many front and rout them really fast.
